We will always stand up for what’s right

It felt really good to be out among the people yesterday. I was feeling discouraged about protesting, feeling like it can’t change anything. We’ve been getting out on the streets to protest for so long, from the first Gulf War to Iraq, immigration crackdowns, women’s rights, equal marriage, etc. And it often seems like millions of people showing up across the country doesn’t even move the needle. But we still do it.

And I’m so glad we did! Our son came with us and we met up with some others from the Purls crew. It was really well organized and positive, with a joyful and festive atmosphere. It was about the community coming together to build connections and support, not just to express outrage. It’s just a small step, but it felt like taking all these issues out of the political context and into how they touch our lives in personal, local ways.

Purl’s is a community that is here to support all y’all, whether that means going to the roller derby or the state house.
