local hero yarn

Local Hero is a locally sourced, milled, and dyed yarn celebrating both our local fiber community as well as individuals who serve our local community through their commitment to justice, equality, and creativity. The first four colorways honor the following living local heroes:

Rev. Amy Cantrell of Beloved House
Franzi Charen of Asheville Grown Business Alliance
DeWayne Barton of Hood Huggers International
Barbara Vassallo of Mountain Lady Farm

25% of sales of each hero’s colorway will go to their community project. The goal of Local Hero is to bring greater attention not only to our thriving local fiber community, but to each of the honored Local Heroes, bringing further donations of time, talent, and money to the awesome work they do. Please read more about each hero and their project through the links above and at the right.

The launch of Local Hero fulfills a long-held dream to provide a fully locally sourced yarn for Asheville crafters to enjoy. And in the process…being able to honor people we really admire, like Amy, DeWayne, Franzi, and Barbara, is another way to give back.
